July 8, 2003 (Tuesday)— Florence

In the morning we had a giuded tour of Florence. Silvia, our guide, showed us la Chiesa Santa Croce, the Uffizi, il Palazzo Veccchio, and the Ponte Vecchio. We visited the Duomo, where they allowed us to sing two pieces. A crowd of people gathered, and even clapped inside the Florence cathedral! The boys have been very conscious of gypsies and pickpockets, and we're pretty sure we didn't get anything taken in Florence. The water bottles get dropped all the time, now a very familiar sound, but none of the new ones has broken yet.
A highlight of the day was visiting the Accademia to see Michaelangelo's statue of David. We had a liesurely Italian lunch, then a rest period. We sang a concert at 6:45, in a church in downtown Florence with great acoustics. It was some of our best singing yet, and we continue to fine-tune things for the festival.
After the concert we had a great dinner, then headed back to pack our things and to bed. To the festival tomorrow!

Passing by Santa Croce, where Michaelangelo, Dante, and Machiavelli are buried.

Good luck to rub the porcellino's nose.

This photo was not taken at Grace Cathedral.

This is the real thing!
