This was the second time the Pacific Boychoir has performed Mahler VIII for SFS. As the SF Symphony describes it, "It is a quintessentially Romantic work by Mahler--a tale of damnation and salvation--but it owes a great debt to the music of the Baroque, especially the towering choral works of J.S. Bach." These concerts represented the last Mahler symphony to be recorded as part of SFS's Mahler recording project.
